Crucified

                 Crucified

Two guilty men hung by his side,
Three crucified for all to see,
And as I watched, and heard, and cried,
I spied in one, a part of me.

"If you are who you claim to be,
Then take a step down from your cross,
And save yourself, and him, and me,
Who took to just redeem my loss."

The other struggled up for breath,
"Have you no guilt for what you've done?
Both you and I deserve our death,
But search his guilt, you'll find there's none."

My Lord, who hung between the two,
Then turned his head to one and said,
"In Paradise I'll be with you,"
And soon thereafter, all were dead.

Death stayed upon its hellish hill,
To take a part of life away,
And took from all who watched until
Death passed along to go its way.

Some tried to keep from death its things,
Like one, who kept and took no blame,
Some others filled the hearse death brings,
Like one, who sinned with guilt and shame.

Death followed after those who kept
The things that death keeps on this earth,
But those with guilt who mourned and wept,
Received forgiveness, freedom, birth.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
