Moses Begins His Mission

      Moses Begins His Mission

The Pharaoh's wizards toss their rods
That spring to life as snakes of gods,
But, do the serpents serve the man,
Or, does man serve the serpents' plan?

They slither in among man's doubt,
Their gods, like shadows, crawl about,
Upon, around, and in between
What is and isn't truly seen.

An easy eye, the quick hand fakes,
But when God's rod falls on their snakes,
He swallows up our freedom's foe,
Be warned and let His people go!

But Pharaoh's gods of straw and stone
Are made with Hebrew flesh and bone,
He adds more labor to their woe
And will not let God's people go.

God's people whine about their lot,
They suffered less before they got
God's promise to be soon set free
Brought on more burdens brought by me.

But, rod and I, we try some more
Persuasion 'til at half a score,
Won't mention all, what matters most,
I live within my spirit's host.

The final blow to gain release
From slavery, our war and peace
Of losing when a want is won,
God takes from Pharaoh, man's first son.

And then, he let God's people go,
All letting goes, when soon, we know
Will lift the burdens, part the sea,
Flow milk and honey, set us free!

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
