Our Newborn King

       Our Newborn King

Our newborn King lies in a manger?
Yes, oh yes, ‘tis true,
Where each who enters as a stranger
Leaves a son made new.

Come in where shines the Guiding Light
Who leads all children home,
No longer wander through the night,
No longer seek and roam.

His palace is an oxen’s stable?
Yes, oh yes, ‘tis true,
Where each who hungers at His table
Fills his spirit through.

Come in who hunger and who thirst
For truth and peace and love,
The poor in spirit eat here first
His food from God above.

His gown is strips of swaddling linen?
Yes, oh yes, ‘tis true,
Where wrapped in Heaven’s clothing given,
We shall grow straight too.

Come wear the Infant Savior’s wrap
Around your heart and soul,
And close that unprotected gap,
And keep your spirit whole.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
