Holy Gifts

                Holy Gifts

The Holy Spirit quickens like a wind
And fills the sails of souls who catch its breeze
To launch a faithful quest from deep within
And venture out upon the open seas.

The cargo in the hold will not run out,
The labels on containers read as “gifts”,
The wise who know the contents have no doubt
If taken to the heart, the spirit lifts.

No need to tie one’s passions to the mast
When tempting Sirens sing enchanting songs,
A glorious good counsel holds one fast
And steers a passion where true love belongs.

Dark storms upon the sea may toss this boat,
But those who stand upon the deck and fight
Will spread good news of victories afloat
And sail through storms with everlasting might.

A guiding map is spread across the sky
Where shining lampposts light from far away,
The patterns are the tools to pilot by,
True knowledge in the Spirit points the way.

The Spirit moves above the endless night,
Below, within the depths where eyes don't see,
In awe of height and depth beyond our sight,
Our lowly hearts bow down in piety.

Oh, Holy Spirit, giver most divine,
All praise to Him who sent you on your way
With gifts to those from Him by love’s design,
When taken, love returns without delay.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
