The Scrub Jay
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

Other Poems by Rich Tassinari

                 The Scrub Jay

A scrub jay pecked against my window pane
In flight surprising both itself and me,
Again it tried to enter, but in vain,
My room is not where it’s supposed to be.

The glass is there so I can see beyond
These personal embellished walls within
In which indulgence makes me rather fond
Of love and hate with self, which is my sin.

But there, outside the glass, the world is wild
With ordered beauty, ordered by a mind
Who wills its beauty to the meek and mild
Who seek for Him who promised they would find.

Oh, foolish jay, you have the boundless sky,
And yet persist in breaking through my glass
Through which I see the beauty where I’d fly
To Him if through my walls of self I pass.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
