Prayerful Calls

This life flows like a river in the Spring
Descending from the mountains to the plains,
Abundant future harvest-hopes to bring
From waters swollen with sweet heaven’s rains.
So full of joyful blessings in its flow
That ancient riverbeds constrain to hold
And mossy wooded banks this season know
The rushing, roaring song it sings so bold.
Then lo, alas, a precipice ahead
Where earth had fallen many years ago,
Wet thunder pours down from this river’s bed,
Will hopes be dashed against the rocks below?
A mist…an angel mist-my prayerful calls-
Soar heavenward amidst the waterfalls.

Rich Tassinari 1/18/2008

This poem was written as an image of my prayers for my daughter who in January 2008 was diagnosed with cancer at age 28. Youth is the rushing, swollen river in life with all its hope. The precipice is life's challenge to its hope. The mist is my rising prayer amidst the precipice in life. She is now 32. She has been diagnosed again. She will be undergoing radiation 5 days a week and chemo 3 days a week for the next 6 weeks. Your prayers will be much appreciated. Thank you. God bless.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
