        Within a Week

What passions, Lord, desires we seek
Will crucify our King?
What changes, Lord, within a week
Betray the words we sing?

Our hearts dance joyfully one morn
And praise a new found day,
Renewed in life, we seem reborn,
But death soon has his way.

He lays down palms, in us he sings,
And frolics to our joy,
Deliverance by worldly kings
We crave and are his ploy.

Triumphant on the colt You ride,
A kingdom still to give,
Eternal light to shine inside,
A spirit life to live.

Enlightened by this love we see
The gift You gave on Calvary.

This poem was first written for Crossways. During this special Holy Week, may we all be blessed with gratitude for our Lord's ultimate gift for our salvation. God bless.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
