If Not for What He Says

If Not For What He Says

Into the heart and into the mind
Along an old chart, the senses will find
An ease that comes in, a storm that beats out
What the ears and the eyes will believe without doubt.

If words are like travelers foreign and strange
To ears more familiar with words that don’t range
Beyond the firm fences where thoughts are enclosed,
Then see with a lens from a heart unopposed.

See a green meadow with shepherd and sheep,
Where no sheep are lost, the Good Shepherd will keep
An unending watch through the day and through night,
The Shepherd’s a sun and a moon full of light.

If one sheep should wander away from the flock,
The Shepherd won’t rest but onward will walk
Until the lost sheep is back in the fold
Where peace shines like silver and love shines like gold.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
