St. Anthony the Abbot
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

St. Anthony the Abbot

The air was still inside the cave,
The prayer of Abbot Anthony
The only sound the cavern gave
Where on the ground knelt Anthony.

His heartwords echoed in the air,
Imparted from a depth within,
Where, emptied as the hermit's lair,
Old hearts freed for new lives begin.

Yet, jealous demons  pricked and poked,
The rebus of temptation,
For lighter burdens souls are yoked,
The Savior and salvation.

The hermit's heart was faithful still,
No limit to great sacrifice
Of one's will to His greater will,
From battles won, some seek advice.

And so, came folk from many miles
To go and visit Anthony,
Ascetic kingdom wealth reviles,
The wisdom of St. Anthony.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
