The Flesh and the Spirit
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

   The Flesh and the Spirit

Dark wings are circling in the sky
And gather whirlwind speed,
Below, a river rushes by
As if on urgent deed.
Dark graceful winged hunters see
In bushy, grassy lair,
Beneath bright blossoms in a tree,
A bull’s-eye hidden there.
And like a cyclone in reverse,
The deadly springs unwind,
With unsheathed weapons, down-traverse
To snatch what instincts find.

For people baptized deep within
Where souls no longer prey,
The river also washes sin
Downstream and far away.
In answer to the good Lord’s call
Created from the start,
All brothers, sisters meek and small
Will humbly live by heart.
On angel’s wings, the Spirit flies
Where willing hearts are found,
And never preys, nor ever dies,
But up-soars heaven bound.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
