My Boxes

My boxes are all neat and codified,
Each has a proper label, proper date,
I store some in a place that's cold inside,
The coldness helps preserve what lies in state.
Some others I keep warm, within my reach,
I bring them to the present now and then,
I tallk to them, they talk to me with speech
Here in the now, 'though I remember when.
Some boxes are quite heavy, others light,
It matters not how much the box contains,
I keep the heavy boxes closed up tight,
The lighter ones I open like champagnes.
The present I shal place inside a box,
Which, when the time is right, my heart unlocks.

Just having fun with poetry while thinking about the old an new year. What could be in my boxes?

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
