A Newer Year

                       A Newer Year

A change of day, of month, and now of year,
A time, though time moves on, to pause, appraise
How footsteps fell these last twelve months of days,
And is the path ahead obscure or clear?
On sunny days, I more recalled the heat;
In rain, a drenching; cool, a chill and shake;
A path that disappointed, a mistake;
And copious new growth, a foe to beat.
And yet, You kept Your promise all the Way,
Each step, the seasons gave Your fruits and gifts,
Each stumble taught me how Your love still lifts,
And once again, I’m blessed by Your today.
    This year, what new first steps shall bring me through?
    The steps I take in which I trust in You.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
