An Anniversay Poem

An Anniversary Poem

Our love is sown within good ground,
Not wasted on a beaten trail,
Not spread where hardened stones abound,
Not choked where thorns and weeds prevail.

There have been weeds that sometimes grew,
You have the better eyes to see
What I knew not but you well knew
How self-seeking a weed can be.

Uprooted is the weed of pride,
Humility restores our place,
And all that’s sown is purified
By Him who waters with His grace.

We have sought out a fertile soil,
Where true love’s labor takes its hold,
From married selfless godly toil
The buds of marriage still unfold.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
