When Doing Is a Heavy Chore

When Doing Is a Heavy Chore

When work becomes a doing-chore,
An inner weight none can ignore,
The spirit, like a rag, is wrung,
The body scrubs to get work done,
And time's compressed by much to do,
I stop...and rest...and think of You.

Your vast and macrocosmic grace
Made earth, and sun, all spheres in space
In constant motion generates
From You at work where nothing waits
Imbued at first to complement
The living in Your firmament.

Your spirit lives in all You've made-
My spirit, mind, and soul arrayed
Around Your pure and lasting light
At work throughout the day and night
Must open to Your spirit beam
And live the spectrum in its stream.

Each virtue like a colored hue
Refracted which embodies You,
Your virtues cast upon my heart,
Your rainbow spreads that I may start
Again with spirit soaked in You,
Of You, with You, I've work to do.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
