A Garden

                        A Garden

I prune the wayward green from top on down,
And leave between the old and tamer shoots
Young tender buds to complement the crown
And gather up new light for burrowed roots.
I let the runner's internodes make do,
They take firm hold in soil to root and leaf,
They spring from old, but sprout and root anew,
And thrive within a natural belief.
The rain and sun fall freely everywhere,
The soil's a fertile mix within earth's womb,
I handle fragile life with tender care,
And spread new seeds from each devoted bloom.
The old and new together share the sun,
And two bloom beautifully into one.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
