Rush Hour

Rush Hour

My weekend garden slows the pace
Sped-up throughout the week’s rat race,
Relaxes muscles, eases thoughts
Wound-up from what the work week wrought.

My red leaf lettuce gently wave
Adjacent to the chard I crave
Inviting me to come and sit
Among the kale and beans a bit.

The air is fresh and clean and calm
Around my restful weekend farm,
Ah, here tranquility and peace,
From work and deadlines full release!

It seems my life was meant to be
That part where nature’s kin to me,
But, now I’ve come to harvest food,
And picking lettuce breaks the mood.

I pull where leafy reds have grown,
My farm’s in rush hour of its own-
Ants, like cars commuting through
The lettuce, kale, the chard, my shoe.

Around my fingers, up my sock,
The traffic’s worse than 5 o’clock,
I’m off I know, here something’s wrong-
These critters work the whole week long.

Rich Tassinari 4/12/14

Having a little fun. True story. Happened this morning. Ants have moved in and don't rest.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
