The Sleepless Demon

      The Sleepless Demon

In sleep, that sweet elixir of life's rest,
I close my senses to life's weary woes,
No longer put my mind through daytime's test,
Nor take my spirit where ill trouble goes.
And yet, nocturnal notions in my mind
Still move to finish each unfinished thought,
And even in my dreams attempt to find
The answers to the daytime questions sought.
What rest is there for restless weary souls
With questions left unanswered night and day?
What sleepless spirit in the mind still strolls
And causes this night's sleep a long delay?
The same dark daytime shadow without rest,
     The faceless, faithless, doubting-demon pest!

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
