Penny and the Autumn Leaves

Penny and the Autumn Leaves

She slaps the glass door with her paw,
But still the leaf drifts to the ground,
She snaps her head toward what she saw-
A leaf in flight without a sound.

The leaf then lands and runs across
The grass and over walkway bricks,
She acts as if this is her loss,
Confused about the glass’s tricks.

But, there are other tallow leaves
Encouraged by the autumn air
To fall, she waits and still believes
She’ll catch a leaf; she’s not aware,

Until the door is open wide
She’ll never catch a falling leaf,
Although her world’s enclosed inside,
She lives out her in-born belief.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
