Absalom

           Absalom

Has he always hung like this-
His head caught in a trap,
His feet suspended from the ground,
The ever present gap
Between designs he had imagined
And the common view
Of taste, of touch, of smell, of sound,
Of all that's simply true?

He placed himself above it all,
Above it all he's caught,
Entangled by the symbol of
The image he had sought,
His mule and we do not delay,
Continue down the road,
And take the proven steady path
With light or heavy load.

Not he, he forged a different path
By his consuming pride,
To be a special someone here
With passion as his guide,
Conspiracy to kill the king
His father, and replace
Himself into the highest seat,
He hangs now in disgrace.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
