A Prayer

A Prayer         (Matthew 6:9-13)

Father,

I  quiet beneath Your gaze and
With childlike trust, I say:

OUR FATHER
Who never fails, Who never flames off;
You watch over me as I journey
Through the dragon-world of temptations,
Through the world's gusts of wind, but also
Through the charms of joy playing in my life.
Thank You.

YOU ARE IN HEAVEN
Beyond
The curtain of my eyes,
The stretching of my climb,
The reign of my mind,
Is Your House, which I will reach
With Jesus, settle there, and
Call It my Home.

HOLY IS YOUR NAME
Holiness IS You, all of You:
Holy is Your Heart, Your Soul,
Every "cell" in You is Holy, for
Your essence is Holiness --
An uncaged Holiness.

LET YOUR KINGDOM COME
A land of joy and reward;
Filled with souls
Spirit poor, lamenting sins;
Powerless, yearning for Your Power;
Forgiving, serving undefiled by lust;
Peace-makers, bearing persecution; and
This Kingdom begins within me.

LET YOUR WILL BE DONE
To love with a love
That is patient and kind;
Not jealous nor pompous,
Not inflated nor rude;
Not self-seeking nor quick tempered;
That bears all, hopes all, believes all.
(1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

GIVE US OUR DAILY BREAD
One day at a time.I will stop my soul's roaming and
Live this moment under Your Gaze,
And take in Your Grace, my soul's feed, and
And listen to the Tongue speaking Your Will,
For this is true sustenance, true fill.

FORGIVE US AS WE FORGIVE OTHERS
If needed I will forgive
My father or my mother,
My husband or my wife,
My son or my daughter,
My father-in-law or my mother-in-law
My friend or my enemy,
My former husband or wife,
All resentments. For,
Peace walks with the feet of forgiveness..

LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION
That I forget You or You forget me;
That I am God and You are not;
That I am the lowest of all, beyond Salvation
That my life is an artic prison
And You have neither the warmth nor key.
No, no, no I will not buy, but only with Your grace..

DELIVER US FROM EVIL
With full sail
Rescue us from ther Evil One --
His bite and blows,
And not succumb
To Evil's relentlessbatter.

Father,

Truly, to You belongs
The kingdom and the power and the glory
For ever and ever.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
