Treasure

"(Christ) in whom are hidden all the treasures
of wisdom and knowledge." Col 2:3

Father,

You favored the Universe with light,
Now illumine my soul's eyes
To vision Your Treasure --
Jesus, the Christ, Your Son,
My soul's Wealth.

For enemies, soul enemies,
Seek to unlock my soul,
Thieve this Treasure and
Melt it to their image

.
Further, the "dragons" and "monsters"
Of my "I" guard my soul,
Keep me out from my Treasure, and
It is they I war with --
The soul's perilous quest..

Really, the quest is a pilgrimage, for
The soul is a pilgrim-servant that
Climbs steep heavenly hills, but
Always under Your Light.

And, when I open the Treasure,
There is joy, joy, joy,
My soul staggers with joy.
Yes, the Treasure is worth the quest.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
