Voice from the Cross

"And when Jesus cried out with a loud voice, He said:
'Father, into Your Hands I commend my Spirit.' Having
said this, He breathed His last." Luke 23:46

Father,

The Wide-Mouth Wounds of Jesus, the Anointed One,
Cry deep from His soul, throbing soul,:
"Look. Look. Look."

The Wide-Mouth Wounds of Jesus, the Suffering Servant,
Speak  with a love beat, a flowing cadence,
To all peoples -- Jew and Gentile, slave and free:
"Listen. Listen. Listen."

The Wide-Mouth Wounds of Jesus, the Saving Christ,
Gaping with love, call out
Without stutter nor stammer nor slur:
"I love You." "I love You. I love You.

Father,

Jesus, Your Son, OUR First-Born,
Whose Tongue of surrender
Struck sin with a death lance and
With Lips not of stone yielded to You, and
IWith this climax, came our salvation.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
