Think

"...He said to Peter:'Get behind me Satan! You are an obstacle for you are thinking
not as God does, but as man.'" Matthew 16:23

Father,

To think
As a creature,
Not as the Creator, You,
Stands in the way
Of the creature, me,
Of reaching You.

To think
With the straw mind
Of this age, and not
With the harvest of Your Mind,
Snags and traps Your Truth.

To think
With the walled words
Of the seen -- the senses, and not
With the open sea words
Of the unseen -- the faith,
Bars Your Truth.

To think
Of men and woman
As pawns of the powerful,
As sex toys,
As objects, things,
Traps Your Truth.

Father,

Your Truth?

Jesus,
The Son of the Living God, You.

Your Mind?

Made flesh in Jesus --
The Steeple's Long Finger
Pointing to You.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
