Confidence

Father,

Faith is not a crutch, but a ladder
To climb the mount of the Spirit's Fire;

Faith is not a cliff, but a bridge
To span over the serpentine world;

Faith is not a stagnant pool, but flowing waters
To be wet with the Spirit, Holy;

Faith is not reason's defeat, but a victory
To triumph over superstition;

Faith is not an exile, but a pilgrimage
To Your Uncaged Kingdom;

Faith is not a "No," but a "Yes"
To truth's Companion -- Jesus;

Faith is not only "mind," but also"heart"
To harvest the evergreens of love;

Faith is not sleep, but awakeness
To see the sail's of the Word of God;

Faith is not death, but a birth
To deliver the soul from flesh's captivity

;
Faith is not a wall, but a gate
To open wide the healing of long-grown wounds;

Faith is not a lock, but a key
To lift the tumblers of hope's warmth.

Father,

When the soul is wave beaten, and
The wind whips on the soul's freezing waters,
Let me recall Jesus when He said to the Samaritan:
"Get up and go your way.
Your faith [confidence] has made you well." Luke 17:19

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
