Hands
"...'Father, into Your Hands I commend my spirit'...."
Luke 23:46

Father,

Our Dateless God,
Jointed to You,
I pray now
To move with You,
Be swayed by You.

You,
Who lulls
The tears from drowning eyes
Through the music of Your Grace,
The Spring-Song of Your Love, and
Walk with Your Love,
OWN Your Love, and
Be bare-footed before Your Love,

You,
Who silences the cracking whip
Swinging from the closed fists of memory --
The loss of what was sought:
The loves and joys,
The jobs and pay,
The dignity and esteem,
Please, Father All-Mending,
Tender these memories.

Father,

You,
The True Sun
Who lights and warms and
Through Your Grace
Makes all shine.

Never,
Let Your Enemy
Be in my thoughts or
On my lips and
Steal me from You,
Trick me.

No,
Let my soul
Be riveted to the metal
Of Your Word, as

I place my soul in Your Hands.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
