Life's Light

"I am the Light of the world, he that follows Me
walks not in darkness, but shall have the light
of life." John 8:12

Father,

Jesus,
The Love-Fruit of the Spirit,
Is the Light which is life --
Life's sanity, life's logic,
The "why" for living.

Jesus,
The Love-Eyes of the Spirit,
Is the Lamp
Leading through the sunless world,
The sorcerer's darkness,
To Absolute Life, the Fullness of life --
The Triune God.

Jesus,
The Love-Sheen of th Spirit,
Is Your Luster, Father,
He shines bright with Your Care,
He outshines the dull sullen gloom
Of the many demon-nights.

Father,
I ask only
To keep my eyes on Jesus, Your Son,
As I walk my trail with its' twists and turns,
So that the Jesus Way be my way.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
