September's Sapphire

September's Sapphire

Father,

Sapphire?
September's birthstone, but it also
Points to Jesus, Your Son.

Why?

September's precious gem,
This clear blue stone symbilizes wisdom, just as
Jesus Who IS the Oil of wisdom's lamp,
The beam, Father, to Your Open-Eyed Truth.

September's precious gem,
This prized stone is a symbol of love, just as
Jesus Who IS the unquenchable Water of Love, that
Spreads softly on the soul's wanting sands and
Blooms this starving desert.

September's precious gem,
This royal stone symbols loyalty, just as
Jesus Who IS the Suffering Servant whose Blood
Is a pledge to Your Will, Father, even to death, and
His promise is our salvation -- a royal robe he wears,
One never worn nor shabby.

September's precious gem,
This cherished stone symbols purity of soul, just as
Jesus Who IS the Face of purity, for our God-Man's
Shepherd Eyes shine His Soul, while
His Tongue speaks clean His Father's Will, and
His Ears purge all, but our cries.

Father,
When my soul is pale and
Tired of lugging Adam's baggage,
Let me think of September's sapphire and
Fill my thoughts with Jesus --
Wise, Loving, Loyal, Serving and Pure of Soul.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
