Lease

"Know, therefore, that the Lord, Your God, is God.
He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love,
... to those who love Him and keep His commandments."
Deuteronomy 7:9

Father,

My right self is lived
When I stand on this rock-truth --
I am not mine, but Yours..

I count myself as Yours,
Not as a prisoner,
Nor caught on fear's hook,
Nor covered with quilt's spill,
But from Your free vent of love
As Your son, as Your daughter.

My soul, my being,
My identity, my body,
You lease to me when You give me life.

In exchange, You ask a covenant-contract
To love You
With my whole heart and soul,
With my whole mind and strength, and
Love my neighbor as myself.
M[Mark 12:30]

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
