Bedrock

"He is like a man who dug deep and laid a foundation
of rock ...."Luke 6:48

Father,

Your Son, Jesus?
His Words? Yes,
My Bedrock.

Your spade of grace
Shovels away my soul's pebbles;
Then in silence and stillness,
I settle deep within, deeper
Than my soul's mantel rock, very deep,
And then, stay His Words -- my Bedrock.

So, when the world's floods flash,
And it's tides swell and surge,,
Or it's waves crest and crush, and
My soul's floodgates crash,
His Words shelter my soul -- my Bedrock.

So, when the world's winds whip and
Drive the cold rain and biting dust;
Or when the world's gales blow and blast,
And I crouch and cower,
His Words make strong my soul -- my Bedrock.

Father,

Your Son's Words
Cage none,nor razor the soul,
But are the flow  of Saving Blood
Solidified into my soul's Bedrock.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
