Shut the Doors

"...when you pray, go into your rooms, and when you have
shut the doors, pray to your Father..." Matthew 6:6

Father,

From Your Word,
Creation thundered alive;
From Your Mind,
Creation still listens.
All wonder! All sweep!

My mind is but a drop
To the ocean of Your Mind;
My will is but a leaf
To the forest of Your Will.

With this truth before me,
I pray.

And enter my still-room,
Shut all doors,, and
Hush the world.

Quiet it's bark and bray,
Leave it's rush and race,
Cool it's fury and frenzy,

Then
No longer bullied,
No longer nagged,
I naked my heart
Before Your Heart,
One never callous covered,
One never Self-Wrapped.

Father,

Kindle my prayer-fire,
Waken my intent, as
I lift my soul's eye scales, and
Say "Yes" to Your Vision for me --
Your Mind and Will and Heart.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
