Separation

"God is love, and he who continues to love continues in union
with God and God continues in union with him ...." 1 John 4:16

Father,

When separate from You, distanced,
I am a leaf left from an oak,
Wind wandering, life dying,
Tremble timid as I fall -- lonely.

When separate from You, detached,
I am a dove without wings,
Easily snared by storm and hail,
Locked in deception's cage door ,
Picturing past day's of flight -- soured.

When separate from You, disconnected,
I am a song without sound,
A monotonous silence,
A refuge of sloth,
A blank sheet -- empty.

Father, You I seek

To sink into Your Love, and,
With Jesus,
Be one with You,
In union with You, and
Never be alone.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
