Crossroad

"To open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light
and the powers of Satan to God, so that they may receive
forgiveness of sins and a place among those sanctified
by faith in me." Acts 26:18

Father,

Fire destroys. Fire cleanses.

Likewise, my past, my life's fires,
Do they destroy? or, Cleanse?

My life's "gone" -
Bridges blazed, dreams flamed, shame stoked,
Left  with  regret's ashes.

Does this destroy? or, Cleanse?

Destroy? Yes,
If judged by self-pity's puff of pride.

Cleanse? Yes,
If judged by the humble bow to Your Will.

Then, washed clean of pride's mud,
I am ready to be before You,
Grow closer to You with Jesus.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
