Spring's Eyes

Spring's Eyes

"Once more Jesus put His Hands on the man's eyes, then his eyes were opened, hissight returned, and he saw everything clearly." Mark 8:25

Father,

With silence as my companion,

Deaf to the world's flapping,

Idle noise,

I outstretch my soul

To receive grace,

Be Spirit-Washed, as

You minister to my soul's tears

Flowing from my soul's inmates --

Hurt and failure.

Yes,

Their tear's brine burns,

Mark my long-faced soul,

Hope is snow covered, cold,

Faith footless,

Soul-eyes blind-folded --

Despair's hostage,

A pawn to the captive.

Father,

I lift up in prayer,

Kneel-deep prayer,

I beg the touch of Jesus' Hands:

Lift the blind-fold,

Heal the eyes scales, then

No longer will I see

With winter's eyes -- despair,

But spring's eyes -- hope,

The sunrise on the horizon.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
