The Name

"... God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name."Philipians 2:9 [see Philipians 2]

Father,,

Fill

The vacancies left in my soul,

They ache for fill;

Stall

The soul's storm slanted rains,

They blind me of You.

Yes, soul-frail, will-weak, am I,

BUT, so graced with Your Love, am I,

A Father's Love, a Jesus-Giving Love.

Now, as Your child, soul naked,

I come to You,

Bathe me in Your Spirit-Mist,

Fresh and cleansing, and

Name the soul ache

With The NAME of Jesus, a NAME

Life-Giving,

Light-Giving,

Love-Giving.

But,

Let me not wear The NAME as a robe,

On and off, on and off,

A disguise for my will.

No, Father, The NAME

Serves Your Will

Without grumble nor grudge,

But with humility and love.

I pray:

Let The NAME

Fill the vacant in my soul,

Then,

Joy, joy, joy.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
