Inner Silence

Inner Silence

"When you pray, go to your inner room, lock the door,
and pray to your Father ...." Matt. 6:6

Father,

Inner silence?

The soul stilled by awe
Gazing on You with love --
Prayer.

Inner silence?

Prayer's friend --
Shelters the soul,
Calms the soul
From roar and racket,
So to hear Your Silence.

Inner silence?

Shells the soul --
Shuts tight the soul's door
To the yelling spears of worry and regret,
And the noisy wrangle of the Tempter,
So to hear Your Silence.

Inner silence?

Soul-candor --
Calls the soul to be open and honest,
Not covered by wax,
But soul-sincere,
So to hear Your Silence.

Father,

Once Jesus walked the earth,
I ask now:
Let Him walk
In the silence of my soul.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
