Land of the Living

"I will walk in Your presence, in the Land of the Living." Psalm 116:9

Father,

You heard my tale and reclaimed me
From the hungry tears of loneliness, and
From the dried bleed of despair, as
I stayed locked to others, keyless, but
You unlocked with Love.

Thank You.

I was beat, You gave me ease;
I was prey, You gave me guard;
I was ungodly, You gave me You.

Thank You.

Yes,
I was a tomb, You gave me rise,
You graced me to the City without chill --
The Land of the Living:
It's life-giving-air breathing
Over tilled fields and
The measured motion of waves.

Thank You.

Father,

I bow to You for this gift, and
When I am without day or dream,
I will keep the faith, asking only
For the gift of simplicity --
A simple soul, a child,

The fare to the Land of the Living.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
