A Sparrow
"A sparrow has found a home at last..." Psalm 84:3

Father
.
A sparrow
Is my soul --
Light of bone,
Earth of tone,
Weary for home.

Tree to tree,
Bush to bust,
With fret and fever,
Weary for home.

All so leafless,
All songs without heart,
All wombs without breast,
All without home.

The winds waved,
The storms shouted,
The sparrow struggled --
Wings flightless.

Father,

Where? Where is rest?

Yes, there is only ONE TREE
High on the mountain
Where fear hoards not and
Where the sun fondles with warmth and
Where peace weaves through all and
Where all weeping is stilled.

Where?

On You, Father,
With Your Son, and
The Healing Spirit.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
