The Tend-er

The Tend-er

"I am the Good Shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,
...." (John 10:14

Father,

Jesus is the Tend-er --
The Good Shepherd,
The Shepherd King,
The Davidic Knig,

Who tends to His flock,
His Covenant-Flock --
You and I.

He knows me by name,
Keeps His Eyes on me,
Watches over me,
With a tender Shepherd's Heart.

He brings me back
From the exile of sin;
He companion's me
Through the wilds of temptation;
He camps me
In the shade of pastures of grace;
He leads me
To the rest-waters of grace.

Yet,
He never drives from behind,
But leads  me with His Staff --
The Cross's Blooded Wood.

ABOVE ALL,
He laid down His life for me, and thus
Healed the tiger in my soul,
And the wounds from sin's night-chains.

Thank You.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
