Ambition

"...we have as our ambition ... to be pleasing to Him." 2 Cor 5:9
Father,
Ambition that walks
With envy and greed? or
Ambition that walks
With Jesus and the Spirit?
My choice.
The first, is a predator, one
With cunning craft and
Sly skills, not folly free.
The other, a blackthorne Staff
To climb  life's canyons,
Cathedral canyons, and
Abide on the Summit -- success.
The first, pride pleasing,
The self as horizon;
The other, God pleasing,
You as the Horizon.
The first, ages and ebbs;
The other,, ageless and flows.
With grace, I choose.,.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
