The Face

The Face

Father,
Your Power's Peal rings through all --
Land and sea, earth and sky, all
Swell to a sacred ensemble.

Now, through Your Power's Grace,
Awake my soul, open it
To a wide, wide morning, so that,
I will see Your Face.

Like all, I wear the face of death, but
Now I pray for the face of love and silence,
Then Your Face I will see. For,

Love, a fresh spring, cleans my soul
Of self, stress and strife,
I will live free of  war-storms, then
I am clear to see Your Face. And

Silence, not the silence of sleep nor dreams,
But the silence of the sky, cloudless and blue,
The silence of light, then
I will see Your Face, and
NOT A MIRROR.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
