Lost

"But we hold these treasures in earthen vessels, that the surpassing power
may be of God and not from us." 2 Corinthians 4:7

Father,

A soul without God
Sits in a shabby diner, a dated diner,
Surrounded by empty stools, and
Stares at a half empty cup of coffee with
Elbows on stained cherry wood counter

A soul without God
Sits in a shabby diner, a dated diner,
At midnight
On a street empty
But for the niught vultures
And the lonely.

A soul without God
Sits in a shabby diner, a dated diner,
With no place to go, no way out, and
Gnaws on the past,
Crowed with throngs of memories.

A soul without God
Sits in a shabby diner, a dated diner,
Left behind by love,
Deserted, and, yes,
Thinks thrown away by You, Father.

Father,

These are
Your "lost sheep," Your "prodigal children,"
Soul-orphans, living without victories nor songs,
Yes, You love these "lost," but,
Thery do no see it, shut,
They depended on clay, not You..

Pour into their soul's vessel Your Treasure --
The Transforming Power of Jesus-Faith, an
Unsurpassing Power, byond rival and sculpture,
So that they will metabolise His Blood-Grace
Through every cell of their souls, and
Rise from their tombs and live in the day. Yes,
Leave the empty cloister of their caves
To light and air and the gentleness of grace.

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
