Servant

"[Live] as free people, yet without using your freedom
as a pretext for wickedness, but live at all times as
servants of God." 1 Peter 2:16

Father,

Your Son's Cross-Wounds,
Revolutionary Wounds,
Radical Wounds,
Set us free,  liberated us
From sin's drudge and "death's sting."

Gifts us with hands
To hold freedom, and
No longer feed on the grub
Of lust and greed.

Yes, I surrender
Being a sin servant
To being a God servant, one
Not "I" made, but grace made.

Gone the old way of life --
Circled by the world, the flesh and the demons,
With the center of "I"

But a new way of life --
Circled by the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
With the center of "I" AND "the other," -- LOVE.

For
A God servant of love
Is a soul free

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
