Perserverence

Perseverence

"But the seed that fall on rich soil, they are the ones, when they have heard
the Word, hold it fast with a generous and good heart, and bear fruit through
perseverence." Luke 8:15

Father,

My soul,
My inmost being,
Is land, arable land.

Fertile
If rich in humility;
Fruitful
If pregnant with awe.

There,
Your Word-Seed
Embeds in this soil,
Binds to it's wealth,
Rises, and
Flourishes with life,
With deeds.

But, at times,
My pride tower is high,
And my back turns on joy-grace;
Then, the soil freezes.

I ask forgiveness, and
With Your forgiveness,
The soil warms with growth.

Father,

As I look within a well,
Deep down,
I see the sky
Reflected in the well's waters;
Likewise,
As I look within,
Deep within,
I see You,
Your Image in my soul.

Let this quench my thirst,

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
