Trench

"For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and this is not from you, but is a gift of God." Eph 2:8

Father,

Dig deep grace trenches
In my soul's field, in order
To fortify against the enemy's siege.

Your Grace Gift
Is a wall circling my soul's city,
A bulwark for my soul's harbor,
Alll to seal off  invaders.

For, my "I,"
My all-eating "I," gluttonous,
Lacks the weapons to ward off enemies.

No, too often my "I" is its' own foe,
Even a cruel foe, and rather
Than soul plenty, there is soul famine.

Father, I pray:

"... bring us to life with Christ." (Eph 2:5)
Yes, with grace
I rise from the tomb of "I" saved
To soul mirror Jesus, Your Son

About the Poet
I am 79 years of age. For the past nine years I have been retired, after forty years, from the field of alcoholism and drug abuse in New York City. I am married and we have two grown sons and two grand-sons. My life changed through a grace-experience in 1967. Writing Christian prayers is a particular interest of mine. This came about by a growing awareness of the spiritual in recovery from addictions. I choose, intellectually and emotionally, to believe the Triune God of the Sared Scriptures as my Healer.
