Snowscape

Snowscape

This early morning, woodland sleeps
enlaced in freshly fallen snow;
a blanket stark so coldly keeps
the fern and fauna all aglow.

A silence calls in beauty white
from deep within where branches stir-
the ancient oaks in skyward height
near to the elms, the birch and firs.

Then soon, a chirp heard sharp and bold-
a scarlet flash from tree to tree-
a cardinal joyous in the cold
lands on a branch for all to see...

a prelude to awakening
of hope within the rising sun;
as snowflakes fall, the forest sings
of Wintertime, this day begun...
