Always September

Always September

Always September turns my mind aside
with each and every early leaf that falls
to expectations of a burnished tide
that permeates the air in season's call.

A fragrant music plays within the spheres
of apple harvest sweet in winded scent;
there is new coolness felt in mornings sheer,
draped misty over summer flowers spent.

Chrysanthemums now budding, beckon eyes
to reap a daily changing tapestry,
and goldenrod flares torchnotes into skies-
such ballads much too wonderful for me...

who holds in heart such nature to remember
in miracles espied with each September.

(a Shakespearean sonnet)
