The Deer

The Deer

In the wind's pause, there's a silent wood

where the deer drinks from a stream, listening,

hearing what I nor any human can hear-

perhaps even the dew glistening...

or maybe yet, the solitude of air

or the hilltop bird, nesting

or the rabbit searching far away,

then settling and nesting...

then the wind again setting trees astir,

the deer more cautious now

of the path ahead in the forest world

that rests on Heaven's brow.
