So Thankful

Toward the horizon, geese fly o're the lake-
their honking echoes ringing through the morn
midst gray November sky this new day born,
and all the woodland now begins to wake.
A mist over still water hangs, opaque
before a field harvested of corn,
limned with last leaves of red sumac and thorn
near to where forest and gold meadow break.

A chirp or two from sparrows can be heard
concordant with the patient dawning's way;
their calling seems to beckon other birds
to sing notes to the heartfelt thoughts I pray,
as peace and light is ours, He has assured-
so thankful for His love I am, each day...

(a Petrarchan sonnet)

Happy Thanksgiving to all fellow poets at Wordchimes and God bless you always!
