The Blessings of a Son

The Blessings of a Son

A baby held within our arms-
first words - that music to my ears;
first steps upon a pathway set-
youths' years...abounding smiles and tears.

Then time, with locomotive speed
zooms on, from grade school then to high-
to college or a calling sure...
the destination is the sky.

But yesterday, our Navy son,
had called to talk to us again-
first words - that music to my ears,
the difference being now and then...

A baby held within our arms-
a man upon a pathway set...
God knows the blessings of a son! -
so much to be revealed yet...

(Our son is an officer in the Navy and lives in San Diego.)
