December Trees (a Rubiyat)
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By Lucia Kiersch Haase
Other Poems by Lucia Kiersch Haase

(This poem is written in Rubiyat form, as
Robert Frost's 'Stopping By Woods on a Snowy
Evening. Below also is Robert Frost's poem.)

December Trees

December trees bare beauty, all
within the Winter season's call;
stark limbs on the horizon sing
awaiting snowflake waterfalls.

What blessings will December bring?
What notes shall nesting birds then sing
amidst the faithful boughs amassed
as all the woodland's carolling.

The winds of time shall hurry past
where all the trees lend shadows cast
each day until flambeaus of fire
bid light adieu again, at last.

December trees shall all aspire,
root deep in praise with forest choir,
when comes the Spring - to rise up higher...
when comes the Spring - to rise up higher...

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
